I am an Internal Family Systems (IFS) practitioner. I provide online sessions to individuals, focusing on meaningful healing. The goal is improved quality of life as defined by my clients.

The study of mental well-being has been a focus of mine for over thirty years. The first subject of my studies was and continues to be myself. I don’t ask my clients to do anything that I have not tried, and can’t vouch for. After decades of experience with myself and others, I am in awe of human resilience, our brain’s ability to literally reshape and neurologically repattern. And I am convinced of our ability to heal at any age. I am not one who hopes for miracles - I bank on them. This is my experience. I am passionate about functional, results-oriented therapy, and IFS is definitely that.

I partner IFS with ITR (Instinctive Trauma Response therapy). ITR is a powerful tool used to transform trauma from Post Traumatic Stress into regular memories, where they can be healed with IFS. ITR employs that act of creating simple line-drawings to access and organize parts of the brain not available through language.

One thing I love about both of these modalities is that they don’t ask “what’s wrong with you?” Instead - they ask “what happened to you?” The assumption is that your equipment is functional and well designed, and that earlier decisions made in the heat of the moment, were life saving at the time. Our job is to actually heal past wounds mentally, neurologically, somatically. Only then can we bring the old “programming” current so that you are using tools appropriate for today. IFS and ITR are not a methods that seek to cope with or mitigate malfunctions and disorders. They about healing the root cause, resulting in the recovery of the essence of who we were born to be.

IFS and ITR are supportive, non-pathologizing forms of therapy. As such, I find them to be safe, respectful, and often times more effective than many of their predecessors. You might be relieved to know that in our sessions, I will not be telling you how I think you should live your life, (advice giving), or where I think you messed up in your attempt to survive. (The proof is obvious that it worked.) Instead, I will be helping you to uncover and heal distressed parts of you, so that your intrinsic wisdom can shine through and navigate your own ship more effectively and confidently.

A Little About Me

The Trauma of Racism and Other Prejudice

The trauma caused by white supremacy and other forms of systemic prejudice are an important part of the curriculum in any modern study of mental health. These issues are life-threatening and as such, the emotional toll is immense. Whether as a target or as a privileged member, no one escapes this system unscathed. But the impacts depending on position are radically different. This can lead to a feeling of gaslighting, another cause of the pervasive damage.

So how does a white, cisgender, able-bodied professional work with members of a society still steeped in centuries-old patterns of abuse? In a word - humbly. The first step I take is to put the issue on the table. This topic is vitally important. We can use IFS to help heal the wounds, even though I can never truly “know” the experience of a BIPOC or transgender person, for example. I am fortunate that there is new material and training available to me constantly. I know that silence results in the status quo, so I imperfectly speak out. And I invite you to let me know if/when I miss the mark and you don’t feel heard. I thank you for your engagement in this topic.
